Operation Freedom Memorial - 2014
First conceived in 2009 the Operation Freedom Memorial Foundation, Inc. (OFM) was founded as a non-profit organization (501C-3) in 2010. OFM worked closely with VMPWI and the Wichita
Parks and Recreation Department in the design and location of the OFM Memorial. After raising the funds to build the memorial construction was started on Nov 21, 2013. Construction was
delayed several months due to bad weather but the project was completed on April 10, 2014 when grass seed and sod were installed. The OFM memorial was dedicated on May 17, 2014.
A symbol of tribute to our Kansas fallen service members from conflicts of war and acts of terrorism. The sacrifice of these brave men and women who wore our nation’s uniform, paid the ultimate price by giving their lives for the American way of life. Their memories will not be forgotten and will forever be a legacy for future generations.
This memorial is dedicated in honor and remembrance to all our United States Armed Forces veterans and currently serving, for their immeasurable service and supreme sacrifice, for those who defend our nation and preserve our freedom. May we all grasp the full measure of their patriotism for a cost greater than themselves.
The black granite walls of the memorial list the names of the Kansas service members who died in conflicts in the global war on terrorism while serving in the United States Armed Forces.
The gray granite floor pavers contain the names of people who have served in the U.S. Military (active or veteran) from any time period or era. For paver purchase availability, more information
or photos visit the www.ofm-ks.com website.
