Veterans Memorial Park

339 N. Greenway Blvd - Wichita, KS

Originally designated as Park Plaza "A" and the John S. Stevens Veterans Memorial, this small parcel of land was conveyed to the Board of Park Commissioners by the City of Wichita in 1980.

US Bicentennial Flag Pavilion Memorial - 1977

Dedicated in 1977, this memorial is named after the late City Commissioner John S. Stevens and was a joint project between the City, Urban Renewal Agency and several veterans groups.

The centerpiece of the park is the John S. Stevens Memorial Flag Pavilion‚ which features 14 display cabinets tracing the evolution of Old Glory from colonial times to the present flag.

Military Order of the Purple Heart

Memorial honoring soldiers wounded or killed in action.

Vietnam War Memorial - 1994

Dedicated in 1994, this memorial honors Sedgwick County men killed or missing in Vietnam. The memorial project was sponsored by the Homefront Memorial Committee.

Korean War Memorial - 2001

This memorial to Kansans who served in Korea war was dedicated in May, 2001. It is located in Veterans Memorial Park, which is located at Central Ave. and Greenway Blvd. in Wichita, KS.

The Kansas Korean War Memorial Association raised funds for the construction of this memorial, which pays tribute to the heroic acts and sacrifices Kansans made in the war effort.

Marine Corps League Memorial - 1995

Dedicated in 1995, this memorial project was sponsored by the Air Capital Detachment of the U.S. Marine Corps League.

USS Wichita Memorial

USS Wichita Memorial, honoring the heavy cruiser of the United States Navy, named for the city of Wichita.

The heavy cruiser was commissioned Feb. 16, 1939, and decommissioned in 1947. It was awarded 13 battle stars for its service. After the atomic bomb was dropped at Nagasaki, the USS Wichita was sent to Japan to help liberate prisoners of war.
